This is going to be a quick update because I am tired and I'd much really get back to The First 49 Short Stories by Ernest Hemingway that I just bought. This week was a pretty good one. On Wednesday, I hosted (quite terribly) the superhero pep rally at my school because that's what vice president's do and people said it was pretty successful. But I don't know... I don't think it went how I wanted to. See that's my problem. I feel like everything I've been doing lately has been half hearted and uninterested. Anyways, we went as the Fabulous Killjoys from Danger Days and our outfits were pretty legit. We also took a picture with our high school principal because he JUST SO HAPPENED TO LOOK LIKE KORSE. Here are the pictures:
Notice the resemblance.
I put together a really retarded stop motion of clips from the day. If you want a recap of the day here you go.
On Saturday I went with my friends Sam, Monica and Namwan. Monica and Namwan got their belly buttons pierced. We ate Korean BBQ and then went to MBK to get the piercings. It was this small tattoo shop and it was pretty cool. Me and Sam contemplated getting our tattoos right there and then, but we were all pretty much broke from the expensive lunch we had. We picked out Sam some t shirts and then went home. Not much happened, but it was a good day. Oh my goodness. Can I just mention the hundred million times I needed to pee? (Sorry, TMI) Oh yeah, and on the way back this nice guy in a wheelchair almost caught me from falling. I think he was Irish.

Anyways, sorry for the quick update. I've been really busy.

This song has been annoyingly stuck in my head. It brings me back to 8th grade.
What's that? You all want to hear about my weekend? Fabulous. (Joking, you guys can totally skip it- it might be long)
This blog is slowly turning into Richelle's weekend adventures, but anyways, we didn't have school on Friday which was really great. Thursday after school, Monica, Joanna, Namwan, Sam, and I decided to go to Kao San Road (haha, again). We got bombarded by all these guys trying to sell us stuff- at one point this guy was trying to sell a "sensual massage" to me and it really was very disturbing. Also some Indian guy asked Joanna to marry him, but Sam came up with a simple solution:
Oh, god, he's going to hate me for uploading this, but basically when anyone tried to come up to him and sell him stuff (from clothes to girls), he would talk in a gibberish and make really strange hand motions. I mean, really all he had to do was say no to them, but this made things much more interesting for all of us. After getting ID's done, we sat and sheeshed for a while. I took a lot of really funny videos, but I think I'll save them.

Sorry for the lack of pictures- my battery died towards the beginning of the night. I really need to remind myself to charge my camera before going out. After we left, the girls spent the night, and in the morning Mika, Tkom, Micah, Grace, and Katy came over for our clothing swap. It was pretty fun, and I got to get rid of a lot of my clothes to clean out my closet before leaving for college. We ended up eating at McDonald's and then came back to my place where Mika, Namwan, Micah, Tkom, and I just hung out and assembled our Killjoy costumes for superhero day. We went to the mall and low and behold, we found "laser guns" that would fit the costumes perfectly with just a little spray paint. We also took one of my old pleather jackets and taped it up so it would look like Gerard's Party Poison jacket. It looks so fucking awesome. My friend, Mika, is one crafty girl.
Saturday morning Mika and I decided to go to this huge market which has the most amazing vintage stores, food and dessert stands, and strange people, and the best part about JJ market is that everything is extremely cheap. I bought so much stuff, it's not even funny. But my excuse is that I'm leaving Thailand very soon and I'll never find anything this amazing nor this cheap ever again. Anyways, we started the morning taking the sky train to Mo Chit and rocking out to Danger Days. I tried hard not to dance the entire way through. JJ was so damn crowded, and we spent almost the entire day there. Some memorable moments: salespeople being extremely surprised when they found out I was Thai/Taiwanese (the majority thought I was half European or something which is quite flattering, but I don't know, it might have been what I was wearing), spotting real life gas masks, this guy selling kebabs to us trying to flirt with Mika but failed miserably, finding this shop of amazing handmade necklaces (the man selling them was incredibly friendly and was really passionate about his work, Mika & I each got one), eating coconut ice cream, finding this amazing record store, and getting lost in a desolate area of the market and a very, very scary encounter with a group of guys (I swear to God we would've been kidnapped or raped or some shit if there weren't two old ladies walking in front of us- this guy tried to grab me and I was freaking out, but kept my calm and kept walking). BE FUCKING CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE OUT- NEVER BE BY YOURSELF. Anyways, here are some of the pictures from our trip. (If you're wondering, the B to $ conversion rate is about 30B = $1
1. The amazing coconut ice cream and free coconut juice 30B 2. Kebab 20B 3. Mika's new hat 4. OMFG HEAVEN IN MY MOUTH
Jeez, I just realized how touristy these pictures look. Well, I guess I'm allowed to be touristy in Thailand once in a while, because I haven't been to this place in a very long time.
I won't spam you anymore with pictures from the trip, but I will show you the things that I bought because this is my blog and I can do whatever the hell I want.
1. Vintage plaid shirt: 90B/$3 2. The Drums tank top: 160B/$5 (I was really psyched about finding this, but Mika & I were on a band tee ban. I convinced her it was a tank top and not a tee though. I wish I could have gotten the Morrissey and The Libertines one. I also wanted the Ian Curtis one, but I already have a tank top with him on it.) 3. Camera bag: 420B 4. Handmade necklace: 150B 5. Vintage oxfords: 320B
We bargained all of these down to these prices. It's so great, because shopkeepers are really nice to the locals, and we definitely got a better deal. I think I'm going to go on a shopping ban for a while. And also I'm running low on the extra spending money I got from Chinese New Year. Anyways, I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I'm still kind of sick, but it's gotten a lot better. Last night I felt so terrible as I have gotten my first rejection letter from a university I really worked hard for and wanted to go to, but maybe it happened for a reason, and maybe this isn't the path I'm supposed to take. So many people, both friends and strangers even, were so kind and really helped me get through last night. Faith has been restored, and I don't feel as down as I felt. It's amazing how you can hate people so much, but then you are able to love people even more.
Hello, my friends. I seem to be updating this blog a lot more than I though I'd be. There are just so many things I want to share, so many things to be psyched about. Panic! At The Disco's new music video "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" came out. I guess the song itself was pretty decent- they've definitely reverted back to their old style since Ryan and Jon left the band.
I've been pretty busy this week- especially this weekend. On Friday, a bunch of us were going to go to our friend Tkom's concert, but most people bailed which left Mika, Micah, and I. The venue was extremely far and we were stuck in traffic for hours. Eventually, we just had the taxi driver turn back because we weren't even near the place and the concert had already ended. :/ It was a real bummer because Tkom is EXTREMELY talented, and I really wanted to see him perform. We ended up going to Kao San which is this night market that sells a lot of really neat stuff. We got lost walking around though. I threw some clips together of our little adventure. I took this all on my DSLR, but I don't understand why the quality became so poor when I exported it. After shopping, people watching, and settling for Burger King, we eventually went home and Mika slept over. I don't quite remember what we were doing but I think we were on Tumblr and just laughing at everything and doing whatever people do when they're half awake. I do recall watching Panic! at the Disco's new music video "The Ballad of Mona Lisa". Definitely paralleled their debut music video "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies". I don't know what to think about it right now, but I am glad that they are going back to their roots. Sunday morning, I went to the slums in Bangkok and taught kids English. I'll elaborate on that later.
I ended up scoring some really cool things at the night market though.
1. Joy Division tank top 280฿ 2. A strange mix between a romper and beach dress 250฿ 3. The Beatle's album artwork for Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the classic umbrella photograph 250฿ a piece
Excuses- The Morning Benders God, this song is beautiful.
I kind of have the sudden urge to do an "outfit post" like all those fashion bloggers out there, but I don't know. I'd kind of feel uncomfortable taking pictures of myself. Anywho, I've been sick again and spent my Valentine's Day eating cupcakes my friends sent me, dying my friend Rose's hair black, and listening to The Decemberists on repeat. Life is good. This weekend I'm planning a clothing swap with some friends so we can get rid of the clothes we don't want and score some really cool stuff from each other. And then the next day we'll go to JJ Market for some thrift and vintage shopping. I'm excited.
So this is what I decided on doing when I have massive (and when I say massive, I mean MASSIVE) amounts of homework to do: blog. Well last night I slept at about 3 in the morning and woke up at 9. How does that happen? I usually don't even stir until at least noon. Today I was supposed to go to this film and video workshop at NIST, but since no one I knew in the workshop planned on going, I didn't either. I can just imagine myself standing awkwardly at the side of the room and trying to make conversation about scissors or the weather or some shit.
The month of February has so far been pretty uneventful. Yesterday after school, we did nothing. A bunch of friends came to my house to hang out and we pretty much just talked and watched youtube videos the entire time. But you know, that's what's so amazing. That we can just do nothing and still enjoy being around each other. I feel like nowadays it's kind of been like "oh, if we're not doing anything illegal or not going out then what's the point of hanging out?" for a lot of my friends. Which is understandable- but you know it's something special if you can just sit around and talk.
Anyways, since this post is lacking color, here is a small recap of what has happened on the weekends I've taken pictures.
I really do love using my film camera, but it's such an expensive hobby. The pictures came out a lot better than expected. And of course there's self obsessed me down below. I got this oversized blouse at the street market for 350 baht.
The picture directly above was taken by hanging my camera on a tree branch. It obviously didn't work out too well. Sorry Sam. Oh, and there's DJ up there looking like a boss.
In An Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
The other week, we went to Kao San road and there were so many amazing vintage shops there. They were selling all sorts of things from boots to handmade messenger bags. We weren't able to shop because we were on a tight schedule, but we definitely plan on going back there sometime soon.
Some of my closest.
This street seller kept coming up to our table and was so adamant about us buying something from her. She placed this hat on Joanna without consent. It was so funny.
Dongjoo ended up buying a bracelet from her. Partially because what she had was so cool and partially because our drunken selves kept telling him to try stuff on and give the lady some money.
Anyways, life has been good and I've almost fully recovered from my fever. I think I'll go and be productive now.
So the only reason I have this blog is because of my bitch, DJ. I'm not sure how much this blog will be updated, but I've promised to write once a month. Now that I'm here, I might as well rant about something completely boring and unimportant. I've been sick for the past week and it hasn't been amusing at all. Skipping school is only fun when you plan on skipping just for the hell of it- not when you're forced to stay in bed all day wrapped up in blankets drinking really nasty chinese herbal medicine. So I've been sitting on my ass all day and the only physical activity I've been getting has been walking to the bathroom and back to bed for the past week. I think I need to start running again.
Oh, I also got this facebook invite today for this party themed "Take A Dirty Picture". I go to the page and low and behold, there is a youtube video. Click play and suddenly I feel so violated and so awkward watching these drunk bitches take dirty pictures of themselves with Tiao (Or is it Taio? I really don't know) Cruz accompanied by Ke$ha dancing on a really dirty toilet. What the fuck. There goes another party I'm definitely not going to attend. And it's not that I enjoy partying. I just don't get how music they play this is enjoyable in the slightest. That's the deal breaker for me, to be honest.
Anyways, I'll leave you with this picture of some waves. Everybody likes waves.
